College at 41. This is the beginning of a journey that
I decided to take to better myself and embark in a new career. Trying to adjust
myself to my new life and career is not so easy after all. I figured that it’s
all bookwork was I wrong. Trying to adapt myself to my new schedule is not as
easy as I thought it would be. I applied at CCBC-Dundulk because they were the
closest to offer the Paralegal Studies program. I was excited to get in, to be
on my way to earning my college degree and be only the second person in my
family to earn a college degree. My Dad was the first. Reality set in my first
week of classes as I was not prepared for the new schedule I would need to
live. It is a lot harder to get adjusted then I thought. Time management is an
essential part of this new journey I have embarked on.
Getting to class on tie wasn’t the hard part; it’s
making time for the homework that is the challenge. I must commit totally to
this or it will be an uphill battle all the way. I have the terrible
procrastination habit, which I must break in order to be successful. I cannot
wait to last day I have an assignment do to start and finish it. It is far more
involved. I previously went to college at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana where I got a taste
of college and found out that I liked it, but so much has changed since 2002.
More work is submitted online now on such platforms like Blackboard. I am
getting used to changing my schedule and also having to tell people my social
life has to take a cut in order to complete my work on time and correctly.
I am a quiet
type person and not used to being in such a social setting as college. It is
interesting to see the various age groups in my classes. I thought I would be
sitting amongst all “kids”, but to my surprise there is a nice mix of different
age groups. I have made a few friends that seem to be interesting people to get
to know. I do like the open discussion that allows for debate and a nice
environment for the creative process to flow freely. The mix of people to not
only work on projects with, but to be able to socialize with is intriguing to
me. if I seem a bit closed off or cold at first, please don’t take it
personally, I just don’t know you yet. Once you get to know me and my sense of
humor, you’ll be telling me to shut up. I look forward to the challenges of
college, not only will it help me expand my knowledge, but also allow me to
meet some very unique and interesting people.
